Effective date: October 23, 2026

These terms are an agreement between you and Jake Dempster, a sole proprietor in Ontario, Canada, operating as Headroom ("Headroom", "we", "us") for your use of the Headroom app. By creating an account, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use Headroom.

1. Who can use Headroom, and your account

You must be at least 16 to use Headroom. If you are under 18, a parent or guardian must review these terms with you before you use it. You may only connect bank accounts that you own or are authorized to access.

You are responsible for keeping your password private and for activity in your account. Give us a real email address you control. Tell us at [email protected] if you think someone else has accessed your account. One account is for one person.

2. What Headroom is, and is not

Headroom is a budgeting tool. It uses the income, expenses, goals and purchases you enter, plus transactions from banks you connect, to estimate what you can spend. If you turn them on, it can also notify you when a new purchase from a connected bank arrives.

Headroom is not financial, tax, legal or investment advice. Its numbers are estimates for your own planning. Make your own decisions, and talk to a qualified professional for advice about your situation.

Bank data may be late or wrong. Transactions and balances come from your bank through Plaid. They can be delayed, incomplete or incorrect, and pending transactions can change. Purchase notifications rely on the same data, so they can arrive late, be wrong, or not arrive at all. Always check your bank for your actual balance before you rely on a number in Headroom. Headroom cannot move money, make payments or change anything at your bank; it only reads information.

3. Bank connections through Plaid

We use Plaid Inc. to connect to your bank. By connecting a bank, you authorize Headroom and Plaid to access your account information from your bank on your behalf, and you agree to Plaid's handling of your information under the Plaid End User Privacy Policy. Plaid is a separate company; we are not responsible for Plaid's services or your bank's.

You can disconnect a bank in Settings at any time. What happens to your data when you disconnect is explained in section 7 of our Privacy Policy.

4. Using Headroom fairly

Do not misuse Headroom. That means you will not: break the law with it; try to access other people's accounts or data; probe, attack or overload our systems; reverse-engineer the app except where the law allows; or resell or copy the service.

Ownership. We own the Headroom app, name, design and software. We give you a personal, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the app on devices you own or control while you follow these terms. Your budget and financial data remain yours; you give us permission to store and process them only to provide Headroom to you.

Price. Headroom is currently free. If we introduce paid features, we will tell you the price before you are charged, and any purchase will go through the App Store.

Changes to the app. We may add, change or remove features. We will try to give notice before removing a feature you rely on.

5. Ending your account, warranties and liability

Ending. You can delete your account at any time in Settings, which deletes your data as our Privacy Policy describes. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or puts other users or our systems at risk. Where reasonable, we will tell you why first.

No warranty. To the extent the law allows, Headroom is provided "as is" and "as available". We do not promise it will be error-free, always available, or that its estimates will be accurate.
